For cars manufactured before 03.2010, map update via USB is only possible with updated CIC firmware (after 03.2010). As a rule, if the first letter in the firmware version is I, J, K, L or M (for example, CIC_Ixxxxxx), then updating from a USB flash drive is possible.
The procedure for updating maps:
To update Europe East maps, you need to copy the contents of the folder (i.e. pkgdb folder and config.nfm file) to the root of a USB flash drive formatted in FAT32.
1. Insert the USB stick into the USB port located in the glove box. The display will automatically ask you to update the navigation.
2. Use the iDrive-Controller to select the "Start update" menu item on the display.
3. Enter the 20-digit FSC activation code (Freischaltcode) using the iDrive-Controller. The FSC activation code does not contain the numbers 0 and 1 in order to avoid confusion with the letters O and I. If the LifeTime code was previously activated, you do not have to enter anything.
4. Select and press "OK" to confirm and the update process (copy from a USB flash drive) will begin.
5. The update will be downloaded only when the display is active, ie. with the ignition on, with the engine running, and a few minutes after stopping the engine. The update takes place in the background and the basic functions of the navigation system are available. Do not remove the flash drive until the update is complete.
6. The update can take from 30 to 90 minutes. After the update is fully downloaded, the system will automatically reboot. The update is complete.
